Strategy in the Eye of the Storm-Implications for Competing in the “New Normal”
Scott Winstead, Principal, FMI
Most construction companies are not prepared to respond to the changing economic conditions of our current turbulent marketplace. When the world is changing at unprecedented speed, it is imperative to ensure that your strategy continues to adapt. Failure to assess the context in which organizations compete, and adjusting strategy accordingly, is simply not a viable option in today’s economy. Although there is a significant shift in the Industry Context, most firms are focused internally or, at the very least, on their own narrow micro market. FMI conducted a comprehensive industry study and discovered that 84 percent of contractors surveyed anticipate an increase in competition yet 70 percent have no process for assessing the competitive environment.
In this session, you will learn how well-prepared firms are assessing the Industry Context and developing winning strategies, not only for the current environment, but for the rebound that will eventually unfold. Also, how to analyze the keys for success-strategies and tactics that drive success through a downturn; and how to identify key organizational impediments that can derail the development of a successful strategy.
